Falling Dripstone
⚠️ NOT REGISTERED — this entity does not exist in the game.
Audit correction: this entry previously documented
etfuturum.fallingDripstoneas a live, registered entity. There is no such registration. TheEntityFallingDripstoneclass exists in the source tree, but its registration is commented out, so the entity is never created and the wiki content below describes dead code.Evidence —
core/proxy/CommonProxy.java:272-274:// { // ModEntityList.registerEntity(EntityFallingDripstone.class, "falling_dripstone", 18, EtFuturum.instance, 64, 1, true); // }Note also that the block
ModBlocks.POINTED_DRIPSTONEit refers to is itself gated byConfigExperiments.enableDripstone(ModBlocks.java:497), and this feature is not part of the mod’s default configuration either.
Registry name
etfuturum:falling_dripstone — registered name does not exist (registration commented out,
core/proxy/CommonProxy.java:273; entity ID 18 is therefore left unused).
Basic info
- Health: Not applicable (falls and breaks or lands)
- Armor: None
- Size: Inherited from
EntityFallingBlock - Spawn conditions: None — never spawned, because the entity is not registered
- Drops: Would be pointed dripstone (1 block, with correct damage value for stalactite vs stalagmite)
- Behaviour: Physics-enabled falling block variant of pointed dripstone. Damages entities on impact if fallen far enough.
The behaviour figures below are transcribed from the un-registered class
entities/EntityFallingDripstone.java. They describe code that is compiled but unreachable — they are not observable in-game.
Fall damage
fallHurtMax = 40: maximum damage amount capfallHurtAmount = 4.0: damage multiplier per block of fall distancehurtEntities = true: always hurts entities on landing
Damage formula: min(floor((distance - 1.0) × fallHurtAmount), fallHurtMax)
Example: 10 blocks → (10-1) × 4.0 = 36 damage
Bounce behavior
When hitting ground that is NOT another dripstone block:
motionX *= 0.7motionZ *= 0.7motionY *= -0.5(bounces upward with damping)- Then dies
When hitting another dripstone block:
- No bounce — immediate death and drop
Block data
- Stores
BlockPointedDripstoneblock type - Metadata preserved through
field_145814_a(block’s own damage/metadata) damageDropped()used when creating the drop ItemStack
Despawn conditions
- Falls for >100 ticks and block Y < 1 or >256 → dies and drops item
- Falls for >600 ticks → dies and drops item
Notes
- Extends
EntityFallingBlock(base Minecraft falling block entity) - Unlike generic falling sand/gravel, this has explicit dripstone-specific fall damage
- Used for pointed dripstone physics (stalactites falling from ceilings)
- The parent block
ModBlocks.POINTED_DRIPSTONEdetermines the dripstone type (stalactite vs stalagmite)
